Football: a faster game!
Today, you can see 250 pound quarterbacks evading the rush of very athletic 300 lb tackles, speedy linebackers who hit like a truck, and blitzing corners who run a 4.3 forty, bench 350, have a 30" vertical and no regard for your well-being. But....not only does he escape the lineman's grasp, he jukes the outside LB, and runs over the closing oft-side corner for an 8 yard gain! Hello! It's 2006. Granted, this most likely is a pro scenario, but the combination of strong bodies and speed is prevalent at all levels.
In a recent survey of strength & conditioning football coaches, 27 out of 40 emphasized both strength and speed. To compete, you have to. It doesn't take a genius to figure out you better be one well-conditioned football player to sustain the effort that the combination demands. Plus....
Players wear anywhere from 10 to 14 lbs of "protective" equipment when they practice and play. Thank goodness for the technical advances equipment manufacturers have made. But, the fact is, true football speed is on the field and with full gear. Doesn't it make sense to prepare for the "full pad" environment. SURE IT DOES.

Bert Hill, Former NFL Strength Coach, Miami Dolphins - Detroit Lions) "The SmartVest allows you to simulate full pad workouts and perform all speed, agility, and skill drills. Distraction free. My experience has proven it to be one of the best tools for improving the player's on-field movement skills. This includes the critical components: change-of-direction and quickness." |
While with the Detroit Lions, Bert took personal time to influence the training regiment of three local high school football players. Excellent athletes who needed a little positive input and a refocus. They would like to thank Bert for making the extra effort. By the way, all three are currently playing college ball.
Football players love the SmartVest's custom, compression fit. It simulates the feel and weight of their equipment. Football movement training combined with sport loading (resistance) demands a vest that moves with the athlete and does not alter form or technique. Use the SmartVest to get "full pad" workouts while performing all speed, agility, reaction/positon skill drills, and running pattern workouts. Add strength to the movement to become more explosive and powerful. Start with 2-4 lbs and progressively add weight until you match the "equipment" playing environment. PlusÉ...the upper rear pockets (loaded with up to 4 pounds) enable you to be "shoulder pad ready".
Bottom line: when camp or practice sessions start you will adjust quickly to the pads and have the edge.
p.s.; Don't be concerned about a big weight load in your vest. You'll achieve the best results with a combination of good fundamentals, top speed, and efficient/progressive resistance.
Gene Noonan, Owner and founder of "Faster Results Speed & Movement Camps," retired coach and teacher, member of the Wisconsin State Association's Hall of Fame for both Football and Track: "The SmartVest is the most important training device for improving speed and quickness that I've used in my coaching career." |
Gene's strong statement comes from practical application and the results his young athletes have obtained. If you've met Gene, know an athlete or student who has worked with him, or talked with their parents, you know how proud we are to have met his standards of excellence.
And coachesÉthe SmartVest, with specific sizing, will deliver a custom, compression fit for every player on your squad. Biomechanics and proper movement are not compromised. Your athletes can focus on fundamentals and maximum effort. You will be promoting performance consistency, athletes who are ready to compete, and are less prone to injury.
Oh, almost forgotÉÉ
Players, from all levels (high school/college/pro) find wearing the SmartVest during daily activities is very comfortable and offers great functional training for the body. Many wear it 8 to 10 hours a day. Under their clothes ( nobody will know you have it on). Research proves this helps athletic performance and increases vertical jump. THIS JUST FLAT-OUT WORKS. We call it "common sense, passive strength training". We supply the guidelines for daily wear, including amount of weight, progression, duration, and tapering.
An added bonus: Many players will also wear the SmartVest when they lift. The compression fit calms the upper body while helping to maintain good posture and form. Use it for distance jogs, playing basketball, martial arts, track "n" field specific training, speed rope work, plyometrics, etc.
If it involves movement, it's a "SmartVest" opportunity.
