The Mind & Movement Training Series
As a Sports Psychologist and Strength/Movement Coach, Todd has designed a series of training programs that build strong minds and quick bodies. They feature the SmartVest and SmartShorts (MovemenTraininGear).
They require the athlete to recognize the purpose of a drill. Specifically, how does a particular drill apply to basketball movements that will be performed on the court? What is the proper footwork and technique for the movement? What are the choices the athlete needs to make within the drill? Because.....
In all sports, the athlete's training program is focused on reducing the response time of the body to an athletic movement. For example, as a defender in basketball, how well the athlete can assess and react to what the offensive player does is critical to moving in a direction to stop the opponent. This reaction time can be the difference between taking a charge and being called for a block. We believe any gains are accomplished through focused mental execution, good fundamental movements, and dedicated repetition(practice). Improvements in your game will occur when these techniques are sustained over a period of time. You have to be consistent.
An example: Movement analysis shows that 31%(nearly 1/3) of game time is spent moving side-to-side (shuffling), with nearly 2/3 of that time being very intense shuffling. It certainly makes sense to perform lateral movement drills at that game intensity level. You know it's important, because you spend so much time at it during competition. It applies to the defensive shuffle, the crossover dribble, the drive to the basket, and taking a charge. The athlete needs to be aware of all the applications a movement has in their sport. Through repetitive training this awareness becomes automatic and frees up the mind for other court decisions.
The Mind & Movement Series currently provides a Basketball and a All Sport training program (you receive one program with your order)....each includes:
Workout components: Warmup, rhythm & tempo, plyometrics, agility, speed, & basketball specific drills (including shooting, passing, ball handling, rebounding, transition, and defense)
Drills that are multi-movement and emphasize: Change of direction, forward/backward/lateral application, accelerating/de-accelerating, competitive in nature, and forces the athlete to THINK
Drills & workouts to address: Strength, court conditioning, quickness/explosiveness, increasing vertical, proper footwork, balance, body control, and overall athleticism
