Roy is an 18-year-old weighing 195 pounds he's a freshmen football player for division II College.  He carries 2.9 GPA and is studying in the field of business.Ê Roy is a very talented/naturally gifted athlete, who needed a challenge to get focused and motivated to practice and play to the best of his ability.  His bio gives us valuable input to be used in determining how best to motivate Roy.

Analysis

The following is a summary of the results gathered from interviewing Roy and observing game action on 4 occasions.

Strength & Conditioning: This helps to determine the athletes overall strength and their ability to utilize it within their game. Roy focused on hand and arm strength to better catch and hold on to the ball while running.  He ran track to work on his speed.  He worked 3 times a week on agility and quickness drills in the program.  Roy's strength is his speed, quickness and ability to be elusive.

Movement Analysis: Roy's mechanics were excellent. The only area of concern was his tendency to take short steps. This raised his center of gravity before changing directions.  So, we worked on his ability to de-accelerate with a lower center of gravity, stick stop, and change direction.

Mental Skills:  These focus on what a player does off the field to improve their ability to visualize the game, mentally prepare, motivate themselves to train,  and manage emotions as well as negative thoughts.Ê The other phase is how well they think and move while performing the sport.  Specifically, their ability to read, create plans, execute those plans, and evaluate their own performance.  You need to consider these factors when evaluating a player's performance.

Football Skills:  These refer to the fundamental skills that a player possesses.Ê For example, the ability to catch and throw the ball, tackle, defend receivers, rush, and block are skills that need evaluation.Ê Evaluate the player's overall performance from both the defensive and offensive side of the ball. How does he perform physically and mentally in game situations?

Training Program:  Given the above information, a training program was generated from the Mind & Movement System to make Roy's weaknesses, his strengths.  First phase: teach Roy how to move.Ê Once he mastered the mechanics and footwork, the SmartVest with 6 pounds was added to his workouts to start building explosive power and enhanced body control.Ê The plyometric and speed program produced great results.  Roy added 8 inches to his vertical jump and erased .23 tenths of a second from his 40 yard dash time (4.47).  The combination of speed and quickness improved his ability to avoid and leave behind would-be tacklers.

The next step was focusing on his mental skills. We worked hard on teaching Roy how to slow his mind down.  This allowed him to more easily process what was happening on the football field.  The ability to more effectively read what was unfolding in front of him, allowed Roy to quickly make the right choice and tap into his creativity.  The following is the workout schedule created for Roy.

Plyometrics........ 2 x Week
Speed and Agility.......... 3 x Week
Individual Football Skill Workouts........3 x Week
Strength and Conditioning.....3 x Week

*We started out with 6 pounds and every 3 weeks added 2 pounds to the SmartVest.  We used the 6 Kg medicine balls and the agility ladder three times a week.

Performance Feedback:  After a summer of training with the mind & movement training system Roy achieved all of the performance goals we had established, he gained great confidence with reading creating and executing his moves.Ê

Congratulations, Roy!
